How to cite this article: Sivapathasundharam B. New Year greetings!. Indian J Dent Res 2011;22:1 |

I am happy to inform you that the visibility of Indian Journal of Dental Research (IJDR) has increased enormously after it became online. It is one of the few dental journals published in India, indexed in PubMed and other indexing authorities. Every year the journal office receives around thousand manuscripts, and the numbers of new submission is keeping on increasing. Currently, the journal is a quarterly and publishes 30-35 manuscripts per issue.
Since IJDR is an open access journal with the policy of not admitting advertisement beyond 2% of the printed content, it charges the printing cost from the authors of the accepted article. Though the journal office has no commercial interest in making profit out of the printing charges, this was criticized from some readers and authors.
The printing and postage expenses are forming around 90% of the total annual expenditure of the journal. Though it is advertised in the journal that the cost of the issue to individuals, for the past ten years no individual reader has bought a single issue or become the journal subscriber. It is even a shame to disclose that more than 50% of the Dental Institutions in India are not IJDR subscribers. Neither the Union government nor the Dental Council of India gives financial assistance to run the journal.
In spite of these facts, it is decided by the editorial committee to stop collecting printing charges from the Indian authors from 2011. The editorial committee is happy to announce that the IJDR is going to become bimonthly from 2011. IJDR will also introduce a section of electronic version only manuscripts.
I sincerely thank the members of the editorial committee, readers, authors, referees, and M/s Medknow Publications and Media Private Ltd., Mumbai for their help and continuous support in maintaining the high standard of the journal.
