As promised in the last issue, [1] a new version of the copyright transfer form has been incorporated in the Journal Manuscript submission site. At IJDR, we hope, the current format has been more inclusive and binding on the authors. We sincerely hope that all authors follow the publication ethics and norms in the right spirit and words. With the new norms and recommendations in place, IJDR needs to follow the same suit. [2]
Merely placing their signatures on the form could lead to disastrous effect as the norms have been tightened and in the future, no author/co-author can plead ignorance of the wrong of the other co/authors. We also have laid down norms to owe responsibility to store the data for a defined period and willing to share such data for scrutiny. Probably in the future, we could also ask the raw-data to be stored/shared, in lines with certain "high-impact/reach," basic science journals. Then the concept of peer-review and postpublication review would also be benefiting from such a venture. Other salient features include statements declaring about plagiarism, redundant publication, image manipulation, salami publishing and multiple journal submission. Additionally, a structured, comprehensive format for a declaration of authorship role has been drawn, and all responsibilities have been clearly defined. Till date, the patient related material release form has been varyingly drawn and submitted. As the patient's rights and identity at times were taken easily, the current editorial board has taken steps to draw a minimum standard and ensure protection of the patient right to protect the identity. Hopefully, these forms would be used to curb malpractices in publishing.
From the peer-review point of view, I have expressed concern of the burden of peer-review in IJDR. We are open to suggestions to improve the quality of the reviewers. Also, we are in active consideration for instituting a yearly declaration form for reviewers - mostly to declare their potential conflict of interest. Also, such a measure might be a deterrent to potential, willful wrong doers.
I wish the authors, reviewers, readers of IJDR and all members of Indian Society for Dental Research a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2015.
